Location Analytics with ArcGIS Online: Bringing GIS capabilities to the non-GIS crowd

Business analytics has now become pervasive in most large public and private sector organizations worldwide. These analytic systems basically turn an organization’s data into actionable information by discovering and illustrating patterns, trends and relationships in tabular business data. Typical output is in the form of statistical reports that summarize tabular data, often displayed as graphs and charts.
Location Analytics (LA) extends these systems with thematic mapping and spatial analysis capabilities, making it easy to put data on a map and uncover trends and patterns that are invisible with tables, charts, and graphs alone. For example, Esri Maps for Office, a feature of ArcGIS Online for Organizations (AGOL), delivers complete location analytics functionality to Microsoft Office users, allowing business intelligence analysts, account managers, marketing professionals, operations supervisors, and other knowledge workers to get more out of their data without leaving the business systems they use every day.
GIS professionals are in a unique position to help these non-GIS users start to use location and geography to make better organizational decisions. This presentation will introduce the LA capabilities found in Esri Maps for Office and the AGOL platform and discuss ways that GIS professionals may support and grow this new community, as well as how to better integrate their existing enterprise GIS assets with LA tools to maximize the organizational benefits.

The Kate Gleason Auditorium is in the new building on the east side of South Ave.  The location is accessible by bus, foot and bicycle.  Car parking is available at the South Ave Garage, which is connected to the library.   Parking costs $2.00 for the first two hours.

Cost:
The presentation is free and open to the public.  We ask for a $5.00 contribution (payable at the door) if you plan to stay for the provided lunch.

Developing the Monroe County Crash Map
Presented by Michael Governale, President of Reconnect Rochester, and Nicholas Livadas, Founder of Livadas Consulting.

Between 2010-2014 there were 22,389 car crashes in Monroe County, NY which resulted in at least one injury or fatality. The volunteers at Reconnect Rochester developed a way to filter and map this data provided by the New York State Dept. of Transportation. The Monroe County Crash Map they created allows users to interact with each crash and discover the deadliest segments of local roadways.

ArcGIS Collector App for Stormwater Inspections

MRB Group assisted the Town of Ontario (Wayne County, NY) with the completion of its 2013 Stormwater Phase II inspections. Instead of using paper forms, the Town leveraged its investment in GIS outfall mapping and combined it with ArcGIS Online, and the ESRI Collector App to complete the inspections digitally with smartphone devices. Digital photos of every outfall were also taken with the Collector App and automatically attached to the inspection points. The reporting functions of ArcGIS 10.1 desktop software was then used to generate an automatic paper report for every inspection with the attached photo displayed.

This presentation will cover a technical overview of the process used, in addition to considerations for planning future projects of this type.
